Three U.S. F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jets crashed in Kuwait after an apparent friendly-fire incident, according to a U.S. Central Command statement. CENTCOM said Kuwaiti air defenses mistakenly shot down the aircraft late Sunday evening Eastern Time while the jets were flying in support of the operation against Iran, called Operation Epic Fury.
CENTCOM said the incident occurred during active combat that included attacks from Iranian aircraft, ballistic missiles, and drones. All six aircrew members ejected, were recovered, and are in stable condition.
Kuwaitâs defense ministry said âseveralâ U.S. fighter jets crashed and that relevant authorities initiated search-and-rescue operations, evacuated crews from the crash sites, and transferred them to a hospital for assessment and care. Kuwait said it was in direct coordination with U.S. authorities and acknowledged the incident.
CNN geolocated videos showing a jet on fire falling in a tailspin near a U.S. air base in Kuwait and footage of a pilot on the ground after ejecting. CENTCOM said the cause is under investigation.
