An internal investigation by the Charleston airport police department, dated 12 November and obtained by the Washington Post, reviewed a 30 October incident at Charlestonâs airport involving Rep. Nancy Mace. The report said confusion over whether Mace would arrive in a white BMW rather than a silver model delayed an escort intended to move her through the airport security line.
Police chief James Woods wrote that the airport bore âa certain level of responsibilityâ for the miscommunication, but that Maceâs âcontinued failure to follow established procedures at the checkpointâ escalated the encounter. Investigators recorded Mace directing profanity and insults at officers and TSA personnel, including statements such as âIâm sick of your shit,â calling officers âfucking idiotsâ and âfucking incompetent,â and yelling that she was a âfucking representative.â Employees were described as âvisibly upset.â
The report referenced prior clashes and officer accounts of recurring timing and communication issues. Maceâs office characterized the report as âa full exoneration,â and she has threatened litigation while publicly disputing incident reporting.
