After the U.S. menâs hockey team won Olympic gold in Milan on Sunday with an overtime victory over Canada, Donald Trump called the team in their locker room. During the call, he praised their performance and invited the menâs team to Tuesdayâs State of the Union address and to the White House.
In the same conversation, Trump joked about also inviting the U.S. womenâs hockey team, which had won Olympic gold on Thursday in an overtime victory over Canada. He said, âI must tell you, weâre gonna have to bring the womenâs team, you do know that,â and added, âI do believe I probably would be impeached,â as the menâs team laughed.
On Monday, a spokesperson for the U.S. womenâs team said the team received an invitation to the State of the Union, expressed gratitude, and said they could not attend due to timing and previously scheduled academic and professional commitments.
