On Monday, Elon Musk posted on X, the social media platform he owns, telling Sen. Mark Kelly, âYou are a traitor,â after Kelly visited Ukraine and urged the U.S. to stand with Ukrainians against continued Russian aggression.
Kelly, an Arizona Democrat and former U.S. Navy combat pilot and astronaut, responded by citing his oath and service, saying Musk âstands byâ an oath to âbillionairesâ rather than âthe American peopleâ and veterans, and adding that Musk âshould go back to building rockets.â
Kellyâs trip included visits to a military hospital and meetings with Red Cross staff during his third visit to Ukraine since 2023, where he spoke with wounded service members and pilots who have flown combat missions defending against Russian air attacks. Kelly said the war should end in a way that protects Ukraineâs sovereignty and security, and wrote online that it is not âAmerica Firstâ to abandon an ally.
The exchange occurred amid Trumpâs Feb. 28 White House meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vice President JD Vance, followed by Trump pausing U.S. military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine.
